Subject: WordPress - Import From Another Host
The following message was sent by our staff regarding the above subject:
Hello!
With WordPress, if a client is transferring from one host to ours, (and are not using a special plugin, like All-In-One, etc) we suggest the following actions:
- Download a compressed (.tar) file of their site (hosted) content, such as the WordPress directory
- Export a copy of the associated WordPress database to a .sql file
- Upload both files to your webmasters hosting account via FTP connecting via 2xx.webmasters.com with your hosting username/password
We can then uncompress the file contents
(This can also be performed by the client using the File Manager, selecting the .tar file and using 'Uncompress' from the menu)
... and import the database into a new one.
(This can also be performed by the client, by using Database Admin to create a new database, and the Database Manager (phpMyAdmin) to then manually import the .sql file)
After an edit of your wp-config.php to account for the NEW database name, database username, and database password -- it should all sync up one the new site goes live.
(Which can also be done from File Manager or locally and then uploaded in File Manager or FTP)
Please feel free to contact us again if you have any other questions or issues. Thank you for contacting us.
